DEINSTALL

One quick project I helped with towards the end of the semester, was a de-install of some ceramic works that were located in another building on campus. This allowed for some more hands-on learning of wrapping and moving art pieces.

We packed up boxes, foam, bubble wrap, and moving blankets and headed out in the NEHMA Mobile Art Truck to get back the works.

The process was straight forward.

Step 1:  Set up folding table and lay down moving blankets.

Step 2: Glove up!

Step 3: Take object from the case and place down onto the moving blanket in the most secure position (for a lot of ceramics, this means lying it on its side rather than standing).

Step 4: Begin by wrapping any fragile, non-central parts of the work in foam/bubble wrap.

Step 5: Wrap the work again in bubble wrap.

Step 6: Place inside a box carefully and secure the object so there is no negative space for the work to roll around in.

After a quick scare of a lip slipping off one of the jars, everything was packed and ready to be loaded into the Art Truck and back to the museum to be put away within the vaults.
